Don Juan Climbing Rose is a romantic, deep red climbing rose cherished for its large, velvety blooms and strong, classic fragrance. This vigorous climber produces 4–5 inch double flowers with rich crimson petals that unfurl from long, elegant buds—ideal for cutting, training over trellises, or covering arbors and fences. Blooming repeatedly from late spring through fall, Don Juan is one of the few red climbers with both exceptional scent and disease resistance. Its dark green, glossy foliage provides the perfect backdrop for the showy blooms, offering a dramatic vertical element in any rose garden or landscape.
Growth Rate and Mature Size
Growth Rate: Fast-growing with strong vertical canes that establish quickly in warm climates. Begins flowering in the first season and increases bloom production with each year.
Mature Size: Grows 10–12 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide. Can be trained along walls, fences, pergolas, or archways to create stunning, cascading floral displays.
Watering and Sunlight
Watering: Requires deep watering 1–2 times per week, especially during hot weather and bloom cycles. Keep soil evenly moist but well-drained. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Sunlight: Thrives in full sun—at least 6 hours daily is essential for optimal blooming and healthy growth. In cooler climates, a south or west-facing exposure encourages stronger flowering.
