Croton ‘Petra’ is a bold, tropical evergreen shrub loved for its glossy, multicolored foliage in vibrant shades of yellow, orange, red, and green. Each leathery leaf is uniquely patterned with veins and color splashes, giving Petra an exotic, painterly look that brightens indoor spaces and warm-weather gardens alike. Perfect as a houseplant or a seasonal accent in containers and landscapes, Croton ‘Petra’ offers year-round color and sculptural form. Growth Rate and Mature Size
Growth Rate: Moderate growth rate in warm, bright conditions. Indoors, it maintains a slow and manageable size; outdoors in tropical climates, it grows more vigorously.
Mature Size: Grows 3–6 feet tall and 2–4 feet wide depending on placement. Can be pruned to maintain a compact shape or allowed to grow into a taller accent shrub in the landscape.
Watering and Sunlight
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Avoid letting the plant dry out completely, and increase humidity to prevent leaf drop—especially indoors.
Sunlight: Requires bright, indirect light to maintain vibrant leaf color. Tolerates some direct morning sun, but harsh afternoon light may scorch the leaves. Outdoors, place in partial sun to filtered light. Low light results in duller foliage and reduced growth.
