The Ozark Plum Tree is a cold-hardy, fast-growing fruit tree prized for its juicy, sweet-tart red plums and early ripening season. With its springtime display of fragrant white blossoms and dense, spreading canopy, this tree offers both ornamental beauty and edible reward. The fruit is medium-sized, deep red with golden flesh, and excellent for fresh eating, preserves, or baking. Adaptable to a variety of soils and climates, the Ozark Plum is ideal for home orchards, wildlife gardens, and edible landscapes in zones with cold winters and hot summers.
Growth Rate and Mature Size
Growth Rate: The Ozark Plum Tree has a fast to moderate growth rate, typically adding 12–18 inches per year under ideal conditions. It quickly matures into a productive fruiting tree within 3 to 5 years of planting.
Mature Size: Reaches 15–20 feet tall and wide at full maturity. Its rounded, moderately spreading form makes it suitable for medium-sized landscapes, orchard rows, or as a beautiful standalone tree in the yard.
Watering and Sunlight
Watering: Requires regular watering during establishment and fruit development. Deep watering once a week is ideal, especially in dry conditions. Well-drained soil is crucial to prevent root rot and promote strong growth.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun exposure—at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily—to ensure the best flowering, fruit set, and sugar content in the plums. Shade can reduce yield and increase disease susceptibility.
